Rules are subject to change before the tournament. These rules were updated on 8-23-2011.
Broomfest Referees will follow the USA Broomball rulebook, with the following exceptions/modifications:
Each team must provide a good-condition, DGel indoor-style broomball at the beginning of each match. Referee may reject any broomball that does not pass inspection. Teams must provide their own broomballs for warm ups. DGel Broomballs will be available for purchase at the event.
Because this is a co-ed tournament, no more than 4 men can be on the ice at a time
All players on a team must wear the same colored jersey or shirt
Helmets with face proection (cage or shield) must be worn at all time while on the ice
Each team is allowed one 30-second time out per game. Be ready to play at the assigned game start time. There is no grace period. A late arrival will result in a forfeit.
Each game consists of a 5-minute warm up, two 18-minute halves (running clock), and a 2-minute half time.
Stopped time will only be enforced during the last 2 minutes of a Playoff game with a goal differential of 2 or less.
Round-Robin games can end in a tie. In the event of a tie during a Playoff game, the overtime format is:
5-minute overtime period, sudden death, 4 v 4, no goalies, at least one player must be female.
If still tied after 5 minutes, another 5-minute overtime period will be played; sudden death, 3 v 3, no goalies, at least one player must be female.
Will continue the 3 v 3 format until a winner is determined.
Bracket seeding is based on points (wins=3 ; ties=1; losses=0;), then head to head result (for 2 team ties only), goals against, goals scored, fewest penalty minutes, then random draw.
Mercy Rule = 6-goal differential with 10 minutes or less remaining in the game
USAB off sides and icing will be enforced.
"Floating" Blue Line - Cross blue line to gain offensive zone. Cross back over center red line to reset the zone.
"No-touch" icing - When ref raises his hand for icing - he will blow the whistle when the ball crosses the back red line (ie. no-touch req'd). The ref may still "waive off" icing at his sole discretion.
Penalty Kill icing - The short-handed team may "ice" the ball intentionally without penalty or whistle. This is the same rule as in hockey.
Unsportsmanlike conduct towards anyone will result in tournament suspension for the player(s) involved. This includes checking and fighting
All members of a team are responsible for the actions of its fans
The Tournament Director reserves the right to suspend any teams or players for conduct deemed detrimental to the tournament
ALL decisions made by the TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR(s) are FINAL
